Nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria play a pivotal role in the global nitrogen cycle and in current attempts to fix nitrogen in economically important crops.
The programme (1998-2002) brings together scientists from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and different countries to study a range of issues in both free-living and symbiotic cyanobacteria and both laboratory and natural communities.
