The ESF Research Networking Programme (formerly known as Scientific Programmes) on Integrated Approaches for Functional Genomics started in 2000 is a joint activity with the EMRC.
Following the exponentially growing amount of genomics sequence data from the Human Genome project and other related projects, the challenge is now to unravel gene functions from DNA sequence information. This is the new discipline known as "functional genomics". The technologies that are used for this are extremely diverse and integration and networking between European laboratories, which this programme aims to foster, are essential for the optimal use of resources.
