Abstract

The European Volcanology Project (EVOP) launched on 1 January 1992 for 5 years, is within the remit of the ESRC.
It originates from the ESF Network on Volcanology (ended in 1991). In fact a comprehensive research programme - base for a Scientific programme - emerged during the meetings of the Coordination Committee and some workshops.
On July 1992, some proposals were submitted by the EVOP members to the CEC Environment programme, At the end the ESF Programme EVOP idea and aims were incorporated in the Research and Development Environment Programme of the CEC (DG XII).
During 1993, two more Volcano Laboratories (Teide and Santorini) have received support from the CEC.
