Content and Structure
Highlights the history and the achievements of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). After a long period of constant wars and conflicts – visualized by geographical maps of Europe, historical paintings of battle scenes and images of extensive post-war urban damages – the six member states of the ECSC finally found a way of peaceful cooperation. In the film, also the High Authority, the European Assembly and the Court of Justice are shown. through the Schuman declaration. The successful results of the ECSC are illustrated by infographics that testify to the growth in the European coal and steel production. The ECSC’s advantages for the workers are also emphasized by explaining the measures taken against unemployment, and by raising the fact that free circulation of workers in the member countries is legally supported. The film concludes with a statement by Enzo Ghiacchero, member of the ECSC High Authority, who sees the Community as the basis for a peaceful and prosperous European future. The two language versions differ slightly in the comment and the length of two sequences.
