Abstract

Item 1: Draft agenda of the nineteenth meeting of the Committee of Experts. Item 2: Draft minutes of the eighteenth meeting of the Committee of Experts, 10-11 October 1985. Minutes detail the report by Gilbert Cornu, Chairperson of the Committee, on the last meetings of the Administrative Board, 29 March 1985 and 26 June 1985 (p.1), the report by the Director of the Foundation on developments since the last meeting of the Committee, particularly on the implementation of the 1985 work programme (p.2), the discussion of the 1986 draft programme of work (p.3) and the information and dissemination policy of the Foundation (p.9). 11pp. Item 3: Report by Gilbert Cornu, Chairperson of the Committee, on the activities of the Administrative Board. No document. Item 4: Report and exchange of views on the 1985 Annual Report and the 1986 progress report. No document. Item 5: Communication by the Directorate on new publications. No document. Item 9: Note presented on behalf of the Committee of Experts regarding the draft regulation amending the organisation and running of the European Foundation. Introduction sets the note in context , 'at the 29th meeting of the Administrative Board, the Chairperson of the Committee of Experts received information regarding the draft regulation designed to amend regulation EEC/1365/75 ... The draft amending regulation proposes, amongst other measures, the abolition of the Committee of Experts' (p.1). Note looks at the proposed amendment and offers an 'examination of the role of the Committee of Experts' where the view of the Committee regarding their contribution to the functioning of the Foundation is 'put on record'. The examination of the Committee's role includes budgetary considerations ,'the costs of maintaining the Committee of Experts amount to only 0.3% of the Foundation's total expenditure' (p.3) , its composition and place within the Foundation's structure (p.4) and proposed measures to 'improve the efficiency of the Committee of Experts' (p.5). In conclusion the note states that 'the Committee of Experts wishes to continue making a useful contribution to the work of the Foundation and considers that its continued existence will ensure the effectiveness and balanced orientation of that work.' Included also is a copy of the proposal for a Council regulation amending Regulation (EEC) No. 1365/75 on the creation of a European Foundation for the improvement of living and working conditions' (CE/19/9(2)). Item 10: CE/19/10-Note concerning the principles upon which the 1987 work programme will be drawn up. Note states that 1987 will be a pivotal year in the implementation of the 1985-1988 four-year rolling programme and that the 1987 work programme must reflect the full range of activities that the Foundation proposes to undertake in the course of the year. The note also gives a list of proposed activities for the 1987 programme. 6pp.
