Abstract

Item 1: Draft agenda of the fifth meeting of the Committee of Experts. Item 2: Draft minutes of the fourth meeting of the Committee of Experts, 2 October 1978. Minutes detail discussion and approval of the rules of procedure of the Committee of Experts (p.1), preparation of the Chairperson's address to the Administrative Board (p.4) and the Committee's consideration of the 1979 draft work programme (p.4) 6pp. Included also is a letter from P. Karpenstein, Legal Service of the Commission of the European Communities, to Wiebe de Jong, Director, regarding a legal opinion on Internal Rules of Procedure of the Committee of Experts (19 December 1978). Item 3: Report on the Rome seminar on the future information policy of the European Foundation. Report, from Eirlys Roberts, Committee of Experts, makes some points that were not included in the official results of the seminar (see AB 6/7). Roberts states that the Foundation's future information policy must be aimed at two entirely different audiences, the academic and the general public. Roberts makes two suggestions to help the Foundation get its work known: the appointment of a Press Officer and the appointment of an editorial panel. 3pp. Results of the meeting (AB/6/7) are attached to the report. Item 4: Report, by Willi Pöhler, Committee of Experts, on the seminar on new forms of work organisation, Dublin 26-27 October 1978. (German only). Included also is a synthesis report by the Director on the seminar. Item 5: Information paper on the European Foundation model for monitoring new forms of work organisation. 8pp. Item 6: Report by TH Nielsen and Gilbert Cornu, Committee of Experts, dated 2 January 1979, Lille, on the Seminar on the Spread of shiftwork in the manufacturing industry in Europe, held at Dublin, 12-13 December 1978 (French only). Included also is a synthesis report by the Foundation on the spread of shiftwork in the European Community. Item 7: Work programme for 1979, as approved at the seventh Administrative Board meeting. Programme details the activities for 1979 including activities following on from research already done (p.2) and new research projects (p.2). 7pp. Item 8: Discussion on the possible role of the Committee regarding the evaluation of the research reports, prepared under the annual programmes of the Foundation. No document. Item 9: Further discussion on the Chairperson's report on the Holte conclusions [documents already discussed at CE/4/4]. Includes (a) Resolution and report to the Administrative Board from the Committee of Experts, February 1978; (b) Paper drawn up at Fourth meeting of Committee of Experts, 2 October 1978 in which 'the Committee underlines once more ... that in the future a better balance should be achieved between living conditions and working conditions' 2pp; (c) Resolution of the Committee sent to the Administrative Board as AB/6/6 : Other: Invitation issued to the Committee members and a covering letter enclosing the working documents of the seminars on work organisation (CE/5/4) and the spread of shiftwork (CE/5/6).
