Abstract

Item 1: Draft agenda of the fifteenth meeting of the Committee of Experts. Item 2: Draft minutes of the fourteenth meeting of the Committee of Experts, 11-12 October 1983. Minutes detail the discussion on the draft 1984 work programme (p.2), the exchange of views and proposals regarding the main themes of the next four-year rolling programme (p.12) and the functioning and renewal of the Committee of Experts (p.14). A list of participants at the 14th Committee meeting is included. 19pp. Item 3: Report by Gilbert Cornu, Chairperson of the Committee of Experts, on the last (22nd and 23rd) meetings of the Administrative Board. No document. Item 4: Report, by Dr. Weil, on the colloquium for the evaluation of case studies on the relation between payment systems and work organisation, Dublin 26-27 April 1984. The report provides the background to the study. 'The European Foundation had selected two sectors (the clothing industry and the chocolate industry) with two and three case studies respectively in four countries'. Report lists features of the study which might be of interest to the Committee and concludes with Dr. Weil's personal comments 'Michael White's consolidated report on the chocolate industry was excellent and would like to see the European Foundation to take account of its findings in future projects'. 2pp. Item 5: Discussion paper on the 1985-1988 four-year rolling programme. Paper outlines the need for the four-year rolling programme to reflect the aims and tasks of the Foundation (p.1), the need for it to be linked to the long term plans of the Foundation (p.2) and then argues that some 'hypotheses relating to the development of society during the late 1980s and the early 1990s be formulated, based on some indicators regarding the likely economic, social and technological development in some key areas over the same period.' (p.2). Paper lists some of the hypotheses as 'rapid development of new technology ... innovation in the field of microelectronics and informatics ... developments in the field of biotechnology ... increase in the demand for social expenditure and health services' (pp.3/4). Based on these hypotheses it is suggested to centre the 1985-1988 four-year rolling programme around the theme 'Living and Working in a Technological Society-Potential and Dangers' (p.5). Paper suggests a number of research areas including 'Humanisation and Flexibility of new Technology' (p.5), 'Underprivileged or Low Income Groups in Urban and Rural areas' (p.7) and 'Protection of the Environment and the Health of the Population in Industrial Society' (p.7) 8pp. Paper was submitted to the Administrative Board as AB 23/7. CE/15/5a-Chairperson's report on contributions submitted by various Committee members following decisions taken at the meeting on the 11and 12 October 1983. No document. CE/15/5b-Presentation by the Director of the Foundation of the draft document drawn up by the management of the Foundation. No document. CE/15/5c-Exchange of views within the Committee of Experts. No document. Item 6: Report from the Management Board on how the Foundation should incorporate the 'living conditions' aspect into its future programmes. Report states that 'Now under a variety of pressures it is hoped to expand the work to take into account living conditions. One source of pressure is the European Parliament which has adopted a resolution which calls on the Foundation to pay more attention to matters relating to the natural environment and to living conditions' (p.1). Report makes a number of suggestions as to which issues could be concentrated on and lists a number of projects that could be studied by the Foundation. 7pp. CE/15/6a-Report by the Foundation's management on 1984 projects which will have to be continued in 1985 and, where applicable, the first projects included within the next rolling programme. No document.
CE/15/6b-First comments on the 1985 draft work programme. Item 7: Revised timetable
