B/40/1(2)-Included also is a letter, dated 16 February 1984, from Bent Pedersen, Deputy Director to R. Barberis, Commission of the European Communities, enclosing a copy of the letter sent to Jean Degimbe, Chairperson of the Administrative Board, regarding the acquisition of new printing equipment. Letter to the Chairperson states that while 'no formal decision was reached at the Bureau meeting on the question of the proposed acquisition of printing equipment ... I gather that your services are of the opinion that it would not be desirable to approve the course of action being suggested by the management.' Mr Pedersen lists eight factors that he feels should be taken into account including 'As you are well aware, there has been very substantial criticism by the European Parliament of the style and format of the Foundation's publications to date ... We have looked at the most economic and effective way to turn the problem around as quickly as possible.' In concluding Mr Pedersen asks Mr Degimbe to 'reconsider the proposals. We put them forward in what seems to us the best interests of the Foundation and in financial terms, given the present budgetary climate, the least disruptive of our budgetary development.' 3pp. English and French only.
