Context
The Network was approved by the ESF Executive Council in September 1998 for a three-year period.
The Chairman was Professor Kjeld Schaumburg, Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen.
Content and Structure
The Network on "Field-responsive polymers, composite organic materials and gels with controlled supramolecular structure" studies polymeric materials and their applications in both science and technology. It focuses on two types of polymer systems: one group comprises polymers with well defined structure, including liquid crystals, comb-shaped polymers, dendrimers, composites of polymers and low molar mass compounds; the second group includes anisotropic networks, polyelectrolytes and gels.
The dossier contains: Network proposal and research assessments; correspondence on the establishment of the Network; scientific reports of short visits.
Documents on meetings and workshops: first meeting, held in Copenhagen, on 5-6 Dec 1998 (minutes, programme, profiles of chemical laboratories); workshop in Crete, 23-25 April 1999 (abstracts, programme, "Synthesis of Miktoarm Star Polymers" by Nikos Hadjichristidis); second meeting of the Coordination Committee, held in Crete, on 24 April 1999; workshop in Copenhagen, 23-25 June 2000; RESPOMAT meeting, held in Potsdam, on 30 March – 1 April 2001.
