Content and Structure
Jeremy, a young student from the USA, is traveling around Europe to research for his term paper. His goal is to publish a report that deals with the current political, cultural and economic situation in West Germany and Europe. He interviews several representatives of European institutions, including an EURATOM research center in Karlsruhe, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) in Brussels, and the European School in Luxembourg. At the end of his tour, he attends the wedding of a Franco-German couple and observes: "For the bride and groom, places like Sedan or Verdun, names of old and atrocious battles, are just ghosts of Europe's tragic past. The European Community is not a dream. It is emerging in a blazing reality: the EEC, the European Union, Euratom, Eurocontrol, the European Wagon Park, partnerships, international summer camps, European schools. This is a long and far from complete list. The culmination – the political union – is still not in sight. But Germany feels, thinks and acts as a part of Europe.
