Content and Structure
Describes the appeal for international cooperation after the Second World War. The films encourages the integration of the European states, the abolition of customs and passport controls as well as the different currencies. The narrator explains all the steps for a closer European cooperation taken since the late 1940s, e.g. the establishment of the Council of Europe, but also claims that "although the European idea is spreading, it only slowly captures the hearts". In the further course of the film, the voice-over describes how much the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) has contributed to the economic progress of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, the films displays the USA as a role model and advocates the integration of the European states again, in order to be as politically and economically successful.
