Context
Columbus, standing for ‘COLlaboration on University Management : a Bridge between Universities and Scholars’ is a transnational collaboration project launched by the CRE in 1987. It aimed at developing cooperation between European and Latin American universities.
Programme Columbus, was declared in October 1995 as a legally independent entity, by the CRE and the Association of Latin American Universities. Afterwards, the CRE was only an intermediary in relations between Columbus and its funding entities.
The Columbus association is still, as of June 2019, an ongoing initiative.
