These files contain the correspondence gathered by the Secretariat of the CRE from the organisation of the founding conference of Gottingen in 1964 to the merging of the CRE with the Confederation to create the European University Association in 2001.

The correspondence is both internal and external. It was divided between the beginnings of the association (before the official creation of the CRE and its Secretariat in 1964), the correspondence of the Presidents of the association, the files regarding applications to membership, and the external relations of the association (with national organisations related to rectors and international or governmental organisations).
