Earth Observation is one of the first field of cooperation between ESA and Japan, with JERS-1 and ERS-2 calibration activities.

The sub-series includes documents on meetings of the ESA/Japan Earth Observation Working Group, plus documents, correspondence and technical data on projects related to Earth Observation: cooperation between European ERS and Japanese JERS, cooperation between ERS-2 and ADEOS (Advanced Earth Observing Satellite), Radiation Mission, OCTS sensor, disaster monitoring and management.

A series on Earth Observation can be identified more clearly from 1994. Documents concerning Earth Observation are also found in the General Affairs series, especially for the years before 1994.
