Content and Structure
As a preparatory activity, it was proposed to the primary school teachers of the Ventotene School to reflect with their students around the concept of the Table, as a primary place of discussion and democratic debate at the institutional level, but also as a place for the development in the young people of the awareness of an active citizenship in cultural, historical, religious and gender diversity. Each Table brings with it different values, purposes and possibilities. Starting from some art works selected by the HAEU Educational Programme team, the teachers offered the children a guided reading of a work of art of their choice through some questions (What is the shape of the table? What is on the table? How are the people sitting around the table? What is the purpose of the table? What are the people around the table doing?).
After this reflection, the children were asked to draw the table at which they would like to sit, taking care to considering all the elements mentioned above (shape of the table, who I would like to be sat with me around the table, to do what, etc.). Before making their drawings, the children could experiment the various situations of the tables presented and reflect on whether they managed to achieve the goal they had set themselves (being together, discussing, eating, being listened to, etc.).
Once the educators of the Educational programme arrived, the simulations of the different tables designed were presented.
