Abstract

The 5B class of the Liceo Linguistico James Joyce in Ariccia (Roma) took part to a pilot project during the school year 2020-2021, which included 6 online meetings and 3 face-to-face meetings, whose aim was to prepare an exhibition-workshop in the school premises on the topic of the European integration process and the construction of the European identity, by using the HAEU materials (images, documents, audio and video), Notably, the materials part of the exhibition, entitled "Europe and Europeans 1950>2020. 70th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration" and published in several languages, were used.
The meetings constituted a formative and preparatory phase for the setting up of the exhibition. During the meetings, an in-depth study was carried out on the Ventotene Manifesto and the figure of Andrea Spinelli, in anticipation of participation in the Call for Selection for the Ventotene Seminar addressed to students in Lazio (‘Ventotene National Seminar of Federalist Education’).
The contents of the meetings with the class were the following: what a historical archive is - notions of document, source, fond; analysis of the text of the Schuman Declaration and understanding of its importance for the history of European integration; reflection on its relevance in today's Europe; analysis of the most relevant political, economic, social and cultural developments of the last 70 years of European history through key documents; what it means to be European today.
