Context
The materials have been deposited by Franz Froschmaier's heirs at the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence under the terms of a deposit contract signed between the depositors and the HAEU, represented by the Director Dieter Schlenker, in May 2021.
The papers have been transferred from Franz Froschmaier's private home in Brussels to the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence in May 2021.
Content and Structure
The fonds consists mainly of paper documents collected and/or produced by Franz Froschmaier during his various professional offices for the Commission of the European Community and for the Commission of the European Communities from 1975 to 1987.
The period of his office as deputy head of cabinet and later head of cabinet of Wilhelm Haferkamp (1970 – 1981) is particularly well documented with files relating to the diplomatic travels in numerous countries and through the collection of internal reports and correspondence. During Froschmaier's office as Director General for information (1981 – 1987) he produced a series of handwritten notes taken during the meetings of the Commission of the European communities (1982 – 1987) which are part of this deposit.
Some files included in this fonds have been created during his office as Minister for Economic Affairs, Technology and Transport in Government of Schleswig-Holstein (1988 – 1992) and as head of the Hanse Office in Brussels (1995 – 2004).
The fonds includes also some personal documents such as his dissertation, honour certificates and drawings from his hand, and a small collection of photographs and other materials.
