Material relating to America's perspective on EDC, includes: telegram from Walter Bedell Smith, under-Secretary of State to President Eisenhower, regarding Ambassador Bruce's suggestion to involve US and British governments in EDC negotiations so that the French might accept the Treaty,- letters from Smith to President paraphrasing British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden's objections to Bruce's plan,- letter from John Foster Dulles to Bruce in aftermath of French rejection of the EDC Treaty,- letter from Dulles to President regarding a nine-power conference showing American committment to the defense of Europe,- letter from Bruce to Dulles speaking of his wish to leave his position as US representative in ECSC.
