The Audit Board (Commission de controle in French) was one of the predecessors of the European Court of Auditors, together with the ECSC auditor. According to Council Regulation No 354/84, in December 1989 the Court of Auditors deposited at the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) all the original Audit Board documents that it held. The Secretariat of the Court kept copies of the deposited documents on microfiche and drew up inventories for internal use. In 2014 the inventories were digitised by the Court of Auditors' Archives service. In December 2023 the original paper inventories were transferred to the HAEU.

The series is made up of two inventories describing the documents created by the Audit Board (Commission de contrôle), one of the predecessors of the European Court of Auditors.
