The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is a decentralised agency of the European Union. It was established as the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) by Council Regulation (EC) No 40/94 of 20 December 1993 on the Community trade mark, and is based in Alicante, Spain. The Regulation entered into force in 1994.
Council Regulation (EC) No 6/2002 created the registered Community design, and later Regulation (EU) No 386/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council entrusted to the Office the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights. Following the entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 October 2023 on the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial products, the Office received full competence for the management of the registration process of this new EU intellectual property right.

In March 2016, OHIM was renamed EUIPO.

The transfer of the EUIPO historical archives end-2025 is in accordance with Council Regulation No. 2015/496 (EU) and the subsequent framework agreement between the European Commission and the EUI, whereby EU institutions are required to deposit their historical archives at the HAEU.

The records were prepared by the EUIPO Archives Service. The physical arrangement and descriptions were finalised by the HAEU.

Original titles of archival materials were considered, abstracts were prepared in English language.

The fonds includes records of the Management Board (formerly known as the Administrative Board until March 2016) and the Budget Committee, as well as presidential decisions relating to various aspects of the administration and operation of the EUIPO. It also contains audiovisual collection and press cuttings.
