Abstract

Material relating to Jean Monnet's involvement in procuring a US loan for Poland in 1927, includes, memorandum by Monnet, partner in Blair & Co. Bank, Paris regarding conditions of loan. - Plans by bankers to give successive loans for development of railroads and municipalities if initial loan succeeded in establishing Polish credit - Information on purpose of loan: regulate credit, to strengthen Polish currency, promote investments and economic regeneration. - Report by John B. Stetson Jr, economic adviser in the US Legation in Warsaw (1927) to Secretary of State, Kellogg, regarding discussions with Monnet on loan and the initiative taken by Federal Reserve Bank to secure credits for Poland to stabilise the Zloty, and information on how loan to be utilised. - Remarks on Polish criticism directed against foreign control. -Reports on loan negotiations
