From 1975 to 1986, Horst Reichenbach was a European Commission Official working in the DG for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG Ecfin) (1975-78), in the DG for Regional Policy (1978-80), and in the Cabinets of Commissioners Christopher Tugendhat (1981-84) and Carlo Ripa di Meana (1985-86). Between 1986 and 1994, he was Head of Unit in the DG for Coordination of Structural Instruments (1986-87), in the DG Ecfin (1989-94), and Deputy Head of Cabinet of K.H. Narjes (1987-88). Between 1991 and 1997, he was Acting Director in the DG Ecfin (1991-94), Director in the DG Budget (1994-95), and Head of Cabinet of M. Wulf-Mathies (1995-97). Finally, between 1997- and 2005, he was Director General in the DG Consumer Policy and Health Protection (1997-99), in the DG Personnel and Administration (1999-2004) and in the DG Enterprise and Industry (2004 -05). Horst Reichenbach left the European Commission in 2005 when he became Secretary-General of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
