Georgette Lalis has studied law at the University of Athens and had her master degree (DEA) in European and International Law in the University of Strasbourg. She joined the European Commission in 1981 as a junior official and held several managerial and senior positions in different sectors of the Institution. She was member of the cabinet of Commissioner Vasso Papandreou (1989-1992) as well as Director for Maritime Transport (1998-2001).
