Thomas Jansen was from 1975 to 1978 Deputy Secretary-General of the "Europa Union Deutschland" and its Secretary-General from 1978 to 1980. From 1983 to 1994, he was Secretary-General of the European People's Party (EPP) and of the European Union of Christian Democrats (EUCD) based in Brussels. From 2000 to 2004, he was Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
