Monica Frassoni is an Italian politician, she graduated in Political Science at the University of Florence Cesare Alfieri and she started her political career in 1983, when she became actively involved in the European Federalist Movement. In 1987, she moved to Brussels, having been elected as Secretary General of the European organization of Young European Federalists. Her involvement in youth policies continued when she was appointed president of the European Co-Coordinating Bureau of Youth NGOs, position she held from 1991 to 1993.
Between July 1999 and July 2009 she was member of the European Parliament. During this period she was member and Co-Chair of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance, member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, member of the Delegation to the EU-Cyprus Joint Parliamentary Committee, member of the Conference of Presidents, member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South America and MERCOSUR, member of the Committee on Legal Affairs, member of the Delegation for relations with Mercosur, member of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly.
In 2009, following the end of her second mandate in the European Parliament, she was elected a co-chair of the European Green Party, being re-elected in 2012 and 2015. Her mandate end ed in 2019.
In 2010 she co-founded with a group of companies and think tanks the European Alliance to Save Energy - EUASE of which she is President.
