Roberto Formigoni is the former unofficial political spokesperson of the Communion and Liberation movement. Formigoni began his political career in Christian Democracy; between 1984 and 1993 he was member of the European Parliament. During this period he was member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian-Democratic Group), member of the Bureau of the same party, he was Chair of the Political Affairs Committee, Vice-President of the European Parliament between 1987 and 1992, Vice-President of the Parliament's Bureau between 1987 and 1992. Formigoni was also member of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China, member of the Committee on Youth, Culture, Education, Information and Sport, member of the Delegation for relations with Bulgaria, Romania and Albania, member of the Committee on Youth, Culture, Education, the Media and Sport, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Security.
Formigoni was the President of Lombardy in Italy since 1995 till 2013.
