He is the UK Labour Party leader in the European Parliament. He grew up in Geneva and attended first the International School of Geneva, then the Trinity College, in Oxford, where he obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Later he completed a doctorate in political science at the University of Hull.
Corbett started his political career in the youth board of the European Movement in Britain, then in the international presidency of the youth wing of the European Movement and of the Union of European Federalists, the Young European Federalists (JEF), a post he held from 1979 to 1981.
In December 1996 he began a member of the European Parliament. Corbett was member of the Group of the Party of European Socialists, member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, member Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Institutional Affairs, Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia, member of the Delegation to the EU-Bulgaria Joint Parliamentary Committee, member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, member of the Delegation for relations with the Member States of ASEAN, South-east Asia and the Republic of Korea, member of the Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan and EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and Delegation for relations with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia, member of the Delegation for relations with Japan, member of the Committee on Fisheries, member of the Delegation for relations with the United States, member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia.
