Elmar Brok studied law and politics in Germany and at the Centre for European Governmental Studies at the University of Edinburgh, then he worked as a radio journalist and newspaper correspondent. In October 1980 he was elected member of the Parliament and at present he is a member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian-Democratic Group). Brok was Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defense Policy, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Chair of the Delegation for relations with the United States. He was member of the Committee on Regional Policy and Regional Planning, member of the Committee on Social Affairs and Employment, member of the Committee on Youth, Culture, Education, Information and Sport, member of the Delegation to the European Parliament/Portuguese Parliament Joint Committee, member of the Delegation for relations with the United States, member of the Committee on Social Affairs, Employment and the Working Environment, member of the Committee on Institutional Affairs, member of the Conference of Committee Chairs, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defense Policy, member of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China. At present Brok is member of the Delegation for relations with India, member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
