Georg Jarzembowski received a law degree from the he University of Hamburg in 1973. Jarzembowski also holds a PhD in Law from the University of Hamburg.
In 1978, he started to work as a judge in Hamburg and between 1979 and 1991 worked as a consultant in the judicial department of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Jarzembowski joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in 1968. In 1991 he was elected Member of the European Parliament and remained an MEP until 2009. During this time he was member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian-Democratic Group), member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats, Chair of the Temporary committee on improving safety at sea, Chair of the Delegation for relations with Japan, Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with Japan, member of the Members from the European Parliament to the Joint Assembly of the Agreement between ACP and EEC (ACP-EEC), member of the Committee on Development and Cooperation, member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), member of the Committee on Civil Liberties and Internal Affairs, member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, member of the Delegation for relations with Japan, member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, member of the Committee on Regional Policy, Transport and Touris and member of the Temporary committee on improving safety at sea, member of the Committee on Fisheries, member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs, member of the Delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula.
