Content and Structure
The EMRC secretariat drew up a questionnaire covering the different aspects of mental illness research, mental health and mental health policy. It was agreed to set up a small study group to study the answers to the questionnaire and to make proposals to the EMRC with regard to action necessary to stimulate Mental Illness Research.
The Molecular Neurobiology of Mental Illness (MNMI) has been first an ESF Network (1987-89), then a programme, which co-ordinates the mapping of the whole of the human genome for linkage to schizophrenia and affective disorder, to identify the genes conferring susceptibility to these illnesses.
The Programme was launched in 1990 for a period of five years and after positive assessment was granted a two year extension in November 1994 (end of the Programme: 31 December 1996)
