Content and Structure
EMU is a union of European associations for craft and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of the metalworking industry (circa 70,000 enterprises in 2024). EMU represents the interests of its members, has a say in European legislation, and is directly involved in setting and monitoring standardization developments at EU level
EMU was founded in 1954 as IMU in Zürich
and changed its name to EMU in 1993. Its initial aim was to bring metal unions and companies together to face the challenges of the post-second world war period. EMU has members in seven countries: WKÖ, Austria; VLAMEF, Belgium; Arbejdsgiverne, Denmark; - Bundesverband Metall, Germany; OFI/IPOSZ, Hungary; Koninklijke Metaalunie, Netherlands; AM Suisse and Swissmechanic, Switzerland. EMU is active in the sectors of mechanical engineering, vehicle assembly, shipbuilding, metallic constructions, etc.
EMU is active with the European institutions with the development of European professional formation, the European Social Dialogue, the European Standardization and Legislation, and Representativeness.
Further to a cooperation agreement with the Europäische Metall-Union (EMU),CEETTAR has handled the secretariat of EMU over the years.
