Context
JESSI has been an 8-years research and development programme on silicon-based microelectronics and their integration into systems.
The execution phase of JESSI was announced as a Eureka project at the Eureka Ministerial Conference in 1989 by the respective Ministers of Federal Republic of Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the Vice President of the EC Commission. This support by the public authorities initiated the industrial JESSI organisation. At the Eureka Ministerial Conference in 1991, the JESSI programme was evaluated and approved for the main phase starting on January 1992.
The structure of the JESSI programme was based on its goal to strengthen the whole European electronics industry 'chain': the electronic systems industry, the microelectronic components industry and the semiconductor production equipment and materials industry. Basic and long-term research will support all other parts of the JESSI programme.
Following verbal agreement, the collection of JESSI files has been sent to the HAEU in Florence in October 2023 by the seat of STMicroelectronics in Agrate Brianza, close to Monza Brianza. During the time of the JESSI projects, STMicroelectronics collaborated to that scientific feature.
