Content and Structure
The European Confederation of Technical, Agricultural, Rural and Forestry Contractors / Confédération Européenne des Entrepreneurs de Travaux Techniques Agricoles, Ruraux et Forestiers (CEETTAR), established in 1983 and predeceded by the the Union Internationale des Entrepreneurs de Travaux Agricoles and the Dutch-based Internationale Unie van de nationale organisaties van Agrarische Loonbedrijven from 1961 to its creation, is an interest group aiming to promote the interests of land-based contractors in Europe. CETTAR is expecially active in advocating for the formal recognition of agricultural and forestry contractors as vital actors in the Common Agricultural Policy; In 2024 it represents some 150,000 companies and almost 600,000 workers in the field of agriculture.
Land-based contractors are skilled professionals who hire out their services to farmers, land-owners, local authorities and other businesses; they are instrumental in supporting farmers, landowners, and forestry enterprises and contribute to the overall productivity of rural communities.
CEETTAR'S association with the European Federation of Food, Agriculture, and Tourism Trade Unions (EFFAT) at the beginning of 2000s, and its merger with the European Network of Forest Entrepreneurs (ENFE) in 2014, further expanded its influence into the sphere of social dialogue.
The records, primarily in French, German, Dutch, and English, provide comprehensive documentation of a wide range of activities. Specifically, they focus on training and alignment through extensive European Commission-funded programs designed to help contractors in Central and Eastern Europe comply with the EU Acquis; on research, through surveys on agricultural work mechanisms conducted at the Commission's request; and on international events organized to foster communication as well as technological and structural development within the sector.
The collection also offers significant insights into the precursors of CEETTAR. This includes documents of the Union Internationale des Entrepreneurs de Travaux Agricoles and the Dutch-based Internationale Unie van de nationale organisaties van Agrarische Loonbedrijven, both dating back to the 1960s and forming the core body leading to CEETTAR’s 1983 foundation.
