Context
The Network on Republicanism: a Shared European Heritage was approved by the ESF Executive Council in May 1995 and it was completed in January 1999.
The Chairman was Professor Quentin Skinner from the Christ's College in Cambridge.
Content and Structure
The Network on Republicanism: a Shared European Heritage explores the European republican theory beyond the Renaissance, to envisage the history of the republican theory from a comparative perspective as a shared heritage of European culture. Main topics are: republicanism as anti-monarchism; the rise of commercial society; the political institutions of the republic; the political culture; the perspectives of republicanism in the future of the European Union.
