Context
The Network on Converging Computing Methodologies in Astronomy was approved by the ESF Executive Council in November 1994 and it was completed in December 1997.
The Chairman was Professor Maria Concetta Maccarone from Palermo.
Content and Structure
The Network on Converging Computing Methodologies in Astronomy focuses on three topics to consolidate the techniques concerning computing problems in astronomical research: from vision models to image information retrieval; the data-life circle, methodological aspects; from data integration to information integration.
The dossier contains correspondence on the establishment (proposal 1994, approval) and the management of the Network; completion report by Maria Concetta Maccarone, 1998; correspondence on the visits; correspondence concerning the organisation of the final conference on "Advanced techniques for astronomical information handling", held in Sonthofen (Germany), on 17-19 Sep 1997.
Documents and correspondence on the Coordination Committee meetings: Strasbourg, 6 Feb 1995; Strasbourg, 22 June 1996; Granada, 19 April 1997; Sonthofen, 18 Sep 1997.
Documents and correspondence on workshops: first workshop on "Vision modelling and information coding", Nice, 4-6 Oct 1995; second workshop on "Strategies and techniques of information for astronomy", Strasbourg, 21-22 June 1996 (papers by Dennis Shaw; Edoardo Ardizzone, Vito di Gesù and Maria Concetta Maccarone; S. Lesteven, P. Poinçot and F. Murtagh; André Heck; F. Genova et alii); third workshop on "From information fusion to data mining", Granada, 18-19 April 1997; fourth workshop on "Techniques and technologies for information retrieval and resource discovery", Londonderry, 12-13 Dec 1997.
