Context
The Network on Mediterranean Marine Geo-sciences was launched at the beginning of 1992 and was completed in 1995.
The Chairman was Dr. John Woodside, marine geophysicist from the University of Amsterdam.
Content and Structure
The Network on Mediterranean Marine Geo-sciences enabled European scientists in field of marine geology and geophysics to meet together annually fro a workshop on a specific theme, to be accompanied by a research voyage in the Mediterranean or Black Sea on board of the Russian Research Vessel Gelendzhik. Themes include: sedimentary processes and environments; geochemistry and environmental marine science; palaeoecology and palaeoclimate; geodynamics and tectonics.
The dossier contains correspondence and documents on: meeting of the Coordination Committee/1993 Planning group, Strasbourg, 4 April 1993; organisation of the 1993 cruise; report on the 1992 activity: "Geological and geophysical investigations of the deep sea fans in the Western Mediterranean Sea" by A. F. Limonov and J. M. Woodside, Unesco 1993; Proposed 1994 Training Through Research Cruise on "Basin filling processes in the Western Mediterranean: Tyrrhenian and Ligurian Seas", 1994; third Trademar cruise, June-July 1993, and workshop 22-24 June 1993, İzmir, Turkey; IMS (International Marine Science) newsletter, n. 68, 1993; ESF Network on Mediterranean Marine Geoscience and Unesco-ESF Training Through Research meeting, Amsterdam, 14-15 Oct 1993; application for an ESF fellowship in Toxicology, letters concerning grant applications; request for extension of the Network; second post-cruise meeting, Amsterdam, 28 Jan – 7 Feb 1994; "La letter de la CIESM", n. 1, March 1994; report of the fourth TTR (Training Through Research) Cruise, June-July 1994 and plans for 1995 TTR Cruise on "Gas and fluid emission through the seafloor"; "Deep-sea depositional systems and mud volcanism in the Mediterranean and Black seas", abstract of the third post-cruise meeting, Jan-Feb 1995; ESF Network on Advanced study workshops on Mediterranean Marine Geosciences, final report, Dec 1995.
