Context
The Network on Molecular Neurobiology of Mental Illness (MNMI) was approved by the ESF Executive Council in March 1987 for an initial two-year period (Phase 1) and extended for six month in March 1989. There was not a Phase 2 for the Network. A Proposal for a Scientific Programme was approved.
The Chairman was Dr. Jacques Mallet from the CNRS Laboratory at Gif-sur-Yvette, in France.
Content and Structure
The Network aims to coordinate the mapping of the human genome for linkage to schizophrenia and affective disorder, in order to identify the genes conferring susceptibility to these illnesses.
The dossier contains documents concerning the Network: correspondence; documents on the ESF workshop held in Strasbourg, on 1-2 Dec 1986; report of the first Coordinating Committee meeting held in Strasbourg, on 11-12 June 1987; second meeting of the Coordination Committee, Strasbourg, 14 Dec 1987; proposal for phase 2; workshop on "The use of diagnostic instruments and selected methods of pedigree analysis" in Heraklion, Crete, 18-24 April 1988; PSE 10/SCAN meeting, 2-6 Oct 1988; working papers; "OCCPI Reliability Study for Psychotic illness"; report of the third meeting of the Coordination Committee, Strasbourg, 21 Oct 1988; Madrid workshop on "Ongoing studies and molecular genetic approaches to mental illnesses", 11-14 May 1989; proposal for the Scientific Programme and list of laboratories and scientists involved; meeting on 28 July 1989 in Longchamp, Paris; final evaluation.
