Abstract

Created in 1975, SAC absorbed some competences of the collapsed LPAC of ESRO. It was the second advisory group of the Council in the scientific field, but it summarised rather than it controlled the working groups, whose members (indipendent scientists) formed SAC. But in 1982, the terms of reference radically changed. It became SSAC, namely Space Science Advisory Committee and it was dependent from a new Directorate of Science under the authority of Director General in the operational structure.
