Beate Weber graduated from Heildeberg University and she worked as a professor in Heidelberg until 1979.
From 1975 to 1985 she was a member of the Heidelberg City Council for the German Social Democratic Party (SPD).
In 1979, Beate Weber was elected to the European Parliament for Germany and she remained as an MEP until 1990. During that period she was member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection, of the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries, of the Delegation for relations with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection.
In 1990, Weber was elected mayor of the city of Heidelberg, reappointed for a second term in 1998.
