Michael McGowan is a British journalist and a former Member of the European Parliament, with a special interest in international affairs, European politics, Africa, peace, development, and human rights.
He was elected in the European parliament between 1984 and 1999.
He was a member of the political group named Socialist Group from 1984. In 1993, he also became a member of the political group named Group of the Party of European Socialists.
He was also a member of a national party Labour Party (United Kingdom), Committee on Development and Cooperation and Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union. He served as a Chair of the Committee on Development and Cooperation. From 1990, he served as a Vice-Chair of Members from the European Parliament to the Joint Assembly of the Agreement between the African, Caribbean and Pacific States and the European Economic Community.
He was also a substitute of Committee on External Economic Relations, Delegation for relations with Poland, Committee on Foreign Affairs and Security, Delegation to the EU-Poland Joint Parliamentary Committee and Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries and the Gulf States.
