Jacques Santer was Vice-President of the European Parliament from 1975 to 1977 and Member of the European Parliament until 1979. As Luxembourgish Prime Minister, he was from July to December 1985 and from January to June 1991 President of the European Council. He was Chairman of the European People's Party (EPP) from 1987 to 1990, and Governor of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) from 1991 to 1994.
