Director of the Task Force for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises of the EC from 1986 to 1989, Alan Mayhew was Chief Adviser in Jacques Delors' ‘Cellule de Prospectives’ from 1990 to 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he was Head of relations with Central and Eastern Europ in the DG External Economic Relations. From 1996 to 2005, he was Adviser to four successive Polish Ministers for European Affairs (UKIE).
