Historical Notes
After serving as a soldier in Egypt, General Sir Ian Jacob was military assistant secretary of the Committee of Imperial Defence in 1938 (which became the War Cabinet in 1939 and then the Office of the Ministry of Defence with Churchill as Prime Minister). He met Jean Monnet during his time in Washington as secretary of the Joint War Production Staff.
