Custodial History

The material comprising this collection was collated by Katiana Orluc whilst researching in the 'Russian State Military Historical Archive' in Moscow in fonds 554 and 771 in preparation of her PhD thesis 'Europe between past and future: transnational networks and the transformation of the Pan-European idea in the interwar years' published in Florence in 2005.

Content and Structure

Abstract

This collection consists of photocopied excerpts taken from documents held in the 'Russian State Military Historical Archive' in Moscow concerning the International Paneuropean Union. The material is a selection of the correspondence sent and received by R. Coudenhove-Kalergi. In 1924 R. C.-K. set up a Head Office in the Hofburg in Vienna and held a large correspondence with personalities from all over Europe in order to publicise his ideas and set up national committees of the International Paneuropean Union. He also organised 'Paneuropean Congresses' on political, agrarian and economic matters and carried out various opinion polls on Paneuropean matters.

System of Arrangement

The material has been subject to organisation and arrangement at the HAEU in order to present significant files. However, any single piece can be relocated to its original context (Fond/Opis/Delo).
The collection has been arranged and described by Ruth Ingeborg Meyer and Margaret Teichert, November 2001.
