In this interview, Spyros Pappas talks about his early career, his ‘unconventional’ arrival at the European Commission. He specifically talks about the creation and development and challenges of DG Consumer Policy and the political relevance of the mad cow disease scandal for DG Consumer Policy. The interview also includes specific parts on DGX, its development and the PRINCE programme. Further Culture (including Culture 2000), Education and the European Commission’s audio-visual policy are touched upon. Euronews is also briefly discussed.
