Abstract:

Commonwealth Relations Office records relating to the first application to join the European Economic Community. This series contains files dealing with the effect on Britain's Commonwealth relations of the proposed entry into the Common Market. Subjects covered include the effect on Commonwealth agricultural trade with Britain, possible forms of protection for Commonwealth producers, and alternatives to be followed after the breakdown of Britain's entry negotiations in 1963.
