The UACES has stipulated a 15 year rule on access to their files. However, some confidential documents have been removed and shall be closed for longer periods.
The affairs of the Association were conducted by a committee, a chairman, a secretary or secretaries. The Committee consisted of a representative from each member University or Institution; two members elected for 3 years by the individual members of the Association, the Chairman and other officers, such other persons not exceeding three could be co-opted.
The documents in this fonds were those produced by the administration of the Association and mainly comprise the minutes of Committee and Officer meetings as well as reports on the Annual General Meetings of the Association.
The Annual Conferences organised by the UACES are considered important dates in the calendars of academics and researchers interested in contemporary European studies.

The draft constitution of the University Association for Contemporary Studies was submitted to the meeting of the UGEIS on 17 May 1968. the objectives of the Association were: promotion of teaching and research in the field of Contemporary European Studies within the field of the social sciences; to maintain and foster links between such universities of institutions and those in other European countries as well as with such other bodies as may be thought fit; to provide such help as may prove possible towards the promotion of study in these fields; to foster coordination of teaching and research by all appropriate means including the maintenance of registers of teaching and research and the organising of meetings and seminars.
Membership of the Association was open to members of the staff of such Universities or Institutions engaged in relevant teaching or research, such Universities or University departments which undertake teaching or research in relevant subjects.
